Diss U13's Team Wyatt V Bury St Edmunds

A dry sunny day greeted Diss U13’s and their visitors Bury St Edmunds to Mackenders. The Diss ‘Wyatt’ team made a determined start and on three minutes from a scrum just inside the Bury half the ball went quickly through the backs and into the hands of Finlay Martin who set off on a long and powerful run to score in the corner.
Bury responded within one minute with a try of their own, securing ball from a breakdown they easily ran through a Diss defensive line which hadn’t positioned themselves quickly enough. The next period of play was end to end with both sides probing without success and both defences holding strong.
On twelve minutes Diss backs grabbed the ball from a break down and broke forward. Joe Jermy kicked ahead and collected the ball from the bounce to score under the posts. With half time approaching the game settled back to even play with neither side able to find an advantage. 2-2 at half time.
The second half started in a similar fashion – this was a very closely fought contest. Bury were the first to score having driven forward in the centre of the pitch they sent the ball wide for a score on the wing.
Ben Waters had come on as a sub for Diss at half time and introduced more urgency into the backline. He made a series of long probing runs at the Bury defence and when stopped short of the line he managed to pop the ball to a supporting Joe Jermy who went over to score his second of the day.
Within a minute of the restart Joe returned the favour. After another mesmerising run Ben passed to Joe who popped the ball back to Ben to see him break a tackle and score.
Bury made an instant reply by scoring from the kick off and leveling the scores 4-4. Bury continued to stick to the task in hand and wore down the Diss defence. This attrition resulted in two further Bury tries just before the final whistle.
Another very good performance from Diss but a stronger defensive display to the very end is required. Final score Diss 4 – Bury 6
