Our boys and girls really seemed to have benefited from an impromptu mid week training session on the Thursday prior, showing much stronger formations in both attack and defence. There were once again many stand out performances, and many successful tackles and tries: and as there was action on 2 pitches at once I can't confess to having witnessed them all! However, particularly worthy of mention to my mind are Josh, who snatched a bungled pass from the opposition in mid air and flew down the pitch to score before they even realised what had happened.... Judah, who despite being our newest member got really stuck in with his tackling and showed great teamwork and determination... Charlotte, whose inch-perfect and well-considered passes once again set up many a try.... and Oli, whose speed and agility once more proves that size doesn't necessarily matter - even in rugby! I managed to catch one of his tries on the video, see enclosed.
Once again the U9s showed us what they are made of , and the parents and coaches are increasingly impressed by their teamwork, attitude, resilience and determination. They really have bonded over the course of this year, and it's becoming more and more difficult to pick out individuals, either for praise or for improvement. I guess that's what a team should be! I suspect that there are more than a few out there who could learn a thing or two by watching our 9 year olds play rugby.
We have our awards dinner to look forward to, and the Norwich Festival, and we also hope to do some more ad hoc training over the summer holidays. The team are more than ready for rucks, mauls and scrums and the coaches are desperate to teach them! So it's not all sadness despite the end of the season approaching so quickly, although I'll miss my Sunday mornings catching up with friends on the sidelines and being inspired by our amazing kids.
