It’s a real cobweb blowing day. Three debuts from Letta, Poppy and Esme M. Seven more players with Amber,Hannah W, Amy, Jessica T,Lola, Emily and Freya. The hosts muster four players and feel let down, we rally and continually rotate three Diss girls into their team and play 7v7, and even the debutants are confident enough to step across towards the end of the game. We were there once.
It’s all good natured stuff, and maybe it would have been a better Diss start but Freya misunderstood the referee, lost possession to Pearl who countered quickly to score. Hannah starting for the opponents finishes a good team effort and a third try quickly follows. So having given the opponents a head start Diss begin to play. Amy sneaks in nicely to score but Beccles answer again, Jessica has her thinking cap on does a quick tap and go from a penalty to score from distance. Strong defending ( oh there we are ) and Emily steals the ball, comes up with a mesmerising run that finishes with a side step to die for, Freya catches from the KO and slices through and the 3rd finishes 20 - 20. During this time Lola, Amber and Hannah are working on and off the ball - Rucking, lovely offloads and good support. It’s difficult with players swapping into opposition every 5 minutes or so. Letta and Poppy are beginning to see the patterns but are getting stuck in wide positions. Poppy can tackle hard. Esme realises she must go forward instead of waiting, and she begins to find herself.
The second 3rd begins with an onslaught as Freya and Emily show how hard and elusive they can be. Interesting to see who supports runners when they go. Esme doing some nice work around rucks, Lola is now running hard. Some good combinations of passing are happening, Emily, Lola and Jess score for Beccles.Then back across Emily scores for Diss after winning a scrum against the head, Esme finally has a cracking run taking no prisoners before laying off to Emily and the Lola finishes with a great burst from a penalty. There’s ruck and recycle a plenty with all the Diss girls involved in the continuity. Letta and Poppy are getting a better idea and work hard on the ground so they don’t give the ball up, Letta is running forward as has Poppy. Meanwhile Hannah, Amber and Amy are involved in everything in defence and attack . 45-50 !
The final 3rd, it’s tiring in the mud. Freya, Amber and Lola finish good team plays. pearl and Grace score for Beccles. Final score 55-65. All played in the true spirit of the game . Great to see that Poppy and Letta moved in from their respective wing to try and get more action. Coaches POM was Esme who grew in confidence through the game and will no doubt as all three will, be assets to the group. Well played too to Emily who was on fire with ball in hand and to everyone for handling the rotating so well.
