Shelford Rfc v Diss/Royston Datchworth Letchworth Barbarians

U15s Jess,Hannah,Amy,Emily & Emilia travelled to Shelford Rfc still short on numbers from illness & players having other commitments the 5 U15s came together with Royston Datchworth & Letchworth to create a magnificent Barbarians team.
Our first visit to Shelford Rfc
with the girls & the 15s first introduction to a 4g artificial pitch.
This being Shelfords first home game they were keen to impress the home crowd & start strongly as any coach knows throwing a Baba’s team together with no training just a quick warm up can prove challenging but today the U15s from each club involved played their part in a fantastically entertaining & hard fought contest that left the two teams separated by just 2 points come the final whistle.
The Diss contingent were prominent throughout the game the 9 & 10 pairing of Emily & Jess keeping the Baba’s game flowing.
Amy & Emilia having a torrid time against a dominant Shelford Scrum but both girls working hard in open play Emilia confidence growing game by game running strongly ball in hand whilst Amy was instrumental in keeping the Baba’s in the game with a number of try saving tackles. Hannah today playing out on the wing had a somewhat frustrating first half with the baba’s failing to get the ball to the wing.
This was remedied in the 2nd half when after a 10 minute spell of intense pressure from Shelford who never left our 5 metre line the ball was turned over through deft hands arriving with Hannah who spotted the space & flew down pitch into the opposition 22 before being tackled! Jess on hand to collect the ball & disrepute through 4/5 sets of Baba’s hands before being run in beside the posts !! For me an excellent team effort & try of the day.
After an excellent display of rugby from both teams our hosts Shelford just edged the result …..

The game played in excellent spirit & roared on by both home & opposition crowd.
Our thanks to Shelford for hosting & all the clubs & coaches for coming together in the true spirit of the game.
Diss Pom this week goes to powerhouse Jess T who at times seems to be everywhere on the pitch!
