Match Report
Diss Rfc Vixens U18s v Crus/Beccles 24/11/19

A home game today as we hosted Crusaders/Beccles.
The Diss girls still buzzing from their trip to Bedford the day before to see the Red Roses victory over Italy attacked the pre match warm up with previously unseen energy the forwards asking to try different moves at set piece the backs self organising run through of their moves.
So to kick off Wow! the 18s having worked hard in training on rucks & contact take the game by the scruff of the neck applying pressure securing good clean ball to play from & playing a team game ball flying through several sets of hands sees Niamh in space on the wing flying over to open the scoring 5 - 0 from the restart more pressure, the Diss rucking getting ever better & the girls gain yards a penalty forced just outside the 22 see’s good decision making & a kick for touch the forwards obviously have a plan line out ball secured maul set a good drive & in an identical move from the England ??????? Ladies no8 Poppy dashes blind side for score number 2.
Although Crus/Beccles try to rally the Diss girls are dominant in all areas with Ezme playing her best rugby by far this year adding no 3 quickly followed by Ruby whose settling into the 13 shirt & beginning to attack the extra space this position gives her with extras added by Megs giving Diss 22 Crus/Beccles 0
Amie also beginning to settle in her new position of scrum half working hard to make the breakdowns & supply quick ball for her teammates is next over the line to stretch the Diss lead again extras added by Megs.
By now the Diss girls seem able to break from any area of the pitch despite a valiant effort by the opposition girls it’s Ruby with an amazing run through the centre stepping two tackles & a half pitch run to score under the posts again extras added Diss 36 Crus/Beccles 0
Not giving in the Crus/Beccles girls rally & put the Diss defence to the test with a rare sortie into the opposition 22 going route 1 they cross the line only to be held up the resulting 5m scrum won & again the direct route is met with a wall of blue shirts again held up, back for another scrum & again the Diss girls meet them head on ball recycled they hit again only for the Diss girls to smash in with huge hits this results in a Crus/Beccles injury but also our power house prop Steph who along with sister Sophie has led the defensive effort goes down injured.
With no subs as coach I decide we’ll play 12 v 13 some may not agree with this decision but every game we as coaches try & issue a challenge this was today’s!
Play resumes with another scrum this time resulting in turnover balk & lines cleared .
With the next play the last of the half Megs steps & skips through the middle to dot down under the posts the half time whistle goes Diss 41 Crus/Beccles 0
With our 1st Xv coach Nick watching proceedings with some senior players he came in at half time to talk with the girls identifying areas to work on & improve themselves targets set we resume play from the off Diss turn the screw with ball from the ruck our backs run a move with Megs crossing & converting. All the girls by now are getting hands on ball Ellie not scoring today but clearing up loose ball & running & distributing well Murran gaining more valuable match time continues to gain in confidence & has fitted seamlessly into the 18s team.
The forward pack who have contributed to the scoreline having put in a huge amount of effort both at scrum & ruck
with Kirsty, Sophie ,Poppy & Ezme seeming everywhere along with Lorna having her best game to date picking up loose ball catching & distributing from line out ever growing confidence in the tackle & contact areas.
This forwards effort sees Ella again playing her best rugby this year receiving the ball to dash through & over for the try again converted by Megs Diss 55 Crus/Beccles 0
At this point time was called as it was felt that it would now be more beneficial to our opposition to mix teams & play the remaining minutes as a training game.
A huge amount of respect to our opposition today as they faced the Tsunami of Diss attacking play & although we ran away with the game today I’m expecting a much sterner test come 15th Dec National cup fixture.
Well done today girls ?#impressed #thesegirlscan
Pom today Lorna
Best game for her yet & I’m sure with confidence growing still more to come!
Very well done.
